Bad breath can result from poor dental hygiene habits, gum disease/tooth decay, consumption of the odor causing foods like garlic, sugar,onion, dairy products and cheese, post-nasal drip, nasal and sinus problems, gastrointestinal problems or chronic dry mouth.

Also, take going to the dentist important because you can reduce gum disease to remove plaque which is one of the leading causes of mouth odor. Chronic bad breath, or halitosis is a special case. Ginger is pungent like garlic -- but unlike garlic, it actually has a pleasant odor. Chewing on ginger root can naturally freshen up bad breath because its properties and ingredients kill off odor causing bacteria in the mouth and in the intestines. Avocado reduces intestinal putrefaction. Consuming avocados on a daily basis can eliminate bad breath.

Zinc found in most whole grain wheat like wheat germ and wheat bran, as well as seafoods such as shellfish and oyster can cure bad breath. Grab a handful of pecans, walnuts or pine nuts which are rich in zinc, and snack on them a few times a day to neutralize bad breath.

Guave can be chewed to cut down on gum disease, another yucky source of bad breath.

Eliminate bad breath with water. Dry mouth and dehydration allows bacteria to not wash away. To cut down on dry mouth, drink 8 glasses of water a day to keep the mouth moistened and fresh.

Fenugreek according to Natural Remedies is, "the best natural remedies for halitosis or bad breath." Make fenugreek tea by simply brewing one teaspoon of the seeds into 500ml of water. Bring the tea to a boil and let simmer for 15 minutes.
